A nine-year-old boy is missing after a jet ski crashed into the edge of a lake in western Queensland.

The 34-year-old man driving the jet ski and a six-year-old boy on the back were also injured in the crash in Lake Moondarra, Mount Isa.

The man sustained head and spinal injuries and the six-year-old suffered spinal and leg injuries and both were taken to Mount Isa Hospital.

The nine-year-old, believed to be the son of the 34-year-old, hasn't been seen since he was hit by the craft in the shallows of the lake.

Police and locals searched until dusk on Saturday but turned up no sign of the boy.

The search was expected to resume on Sunday morning.
