Cairns to whistle up a storm

Cairns locals aim to whistle up a storm this month to put their city into the Guinness World Book of Records.

The far north Queensland city's Chamber of Commerce is organising a tilt at the continuous whistling world record and are calling for 1000 whistlers.

Each participant must whistle a tune for one minute without stopping, break for 10 seconds and then repeat five times.

The record attempt, which is also to raise funds for The Salvation Army, is set down for Sunday, October 30 at Fogarty Park.
