Campbell Newman meets with One Nation

Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman has met with a representative of One Nation but both have played down any significance.

Mr Newman visited Pauline Hanson's office in Brisbane's CBD on Thursday, and her adviser James Ashby confirmed to AAP the meeting took place.

However, he said the meeting was in Mr Newman's capacity as a political commentator.

"Campbell Newman is a commentator, in the same way Mark Latham is, in the same way Jeff Kennett is, both of whom I've met with in the past," Mr Ashby said.

Mr Newman also played down the meeting, saying he'd simply run into Mr Ashby while at Waterfront Place.

"I do a lot of business on Waterfront Place; the lawyers and bankers I work with are there," Mr Newman told Fairfax Media.

"I happened to see him and had a chat to him."

It comes just days after Mr Newman said on a Sky News discussion panel that one of the two major political parties would need support from One Nation to form government.

"So the next government in Queensland will have to be a coalition government with One Nation," Mr Newman said on Monday.

One Nation's resurgence has both Labor and the Liberal National Party concerned, with Labor pledging to preference One Nation last at the next Queensland poll, which is due by early 2018.
