A pair of carjackers appear to have targeted luxury car owners in two incidents on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

Police say two men attempted to carjack one man in a BMW at Helensvale around 1.30pm when they pulled a knife on him and put him into a headlock.

The pair were unable to start the car, and the 41-year-old owner of the car wasn't injured during the ordeal.

About an hour later the pair approached a woman who had parked her BMW in her garage at Robina and after the pair produced a knife the woman handed over her keys and one of the pair drove away.

The pair had been using a black Mitsubishi Lancer sedan, which one of the men drove away in.
