A student from a primary school north of Brisbane is recovering in hospital after allegedly being stabbed with a pair of scissors by a classmate.

The student was wounded in a classroom at Dakabin State School at Kallangur on Thursday afternoon.

The boy, understood to be in Year 6, was rushed to Redcliffe Hospital with a leg injury.

Counselling has been made available to students and staff members, Education Queensland says.

An 11-year-old boy has been charged with unlawful wounding and assault and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
