In the 16 years Chris Evans has been making movies, he's accumulated a list of co-stars that reads like a who's who of disparate A-list Hollywood talent: Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Anna Faris, Jessica Alba, Oscar winners Kim Basinger and Octavia Spencer, and too many more to list here.

The 35-year-old action star co-starred with Scarlett early on in 2004's , and they went on to share more screen time in the multiple Marvel universe Avengers films – he's Captain America; she's Black Widow. Surely she must be his all-time favourite colleague, right?

Wrong. In Sydney as the new Australia and New Zealand ambassador for Chivas Regal Ultis scotch-whiskey, Chris floored TheFIX when he named the co-star he enjoyed working with most. Shockingly, it wasn't the beautiful lady he describes as "one of my best friends".

The Boston-born and Sudbury, Massachusetts-raised star also talked embarrassing whiskey stories and how growing up with his actor brother Scott, 33, who is gay, and two sisters helped inspire his adult activism.

"It's important to understand, whether it's growing up with women, whether it's growing up with other ethnic groups, it's important to experience anything different from what you know. To encourage and cultivate compassion and understanding," Chris told TheFIX.

"So certainly growing up with women helped me, but growing up in the theatre helped me, growing up in a progressive community helped me. I think it's really important to put faces to the situations that we're navigating as society.

"So yeah, growing up with sisters was a big influence for me, and I have a deep connection to not only human rights but specifically women's rights."

As if we needed another reason to love Chris.
