Concert-going Queensland minister Shannon Fentiman will be in the budget estimates hot seat on Wednesday after courting criticism for her weekend trip to Splendour in the Grass.

Ms Fentiman, whose portfolios include the department of communities, women, youth, child safety and domestic violence prevention, was spotted at the Byron Bay festival on Saturday.

Shadow treasurer Scott Emerson seized on the minister's visit, noting a "crisis" in child safety.

"That should be the sole focus of that minister," he said.

Asked if Ms Fentiman had made herself a target, Mr Emerson replied: "Clearly we'll be asking the minister what it is she's doing about solving the problems of child safety given we're seeing report after report about problems in that sector."

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk defended Ms Fentiman, saying she had asked for permission to attend a "family event" on Saturday and spent the next day at work to compensate.

"The minister assures me she is 100 per cent committed and focused to matters in her portfolio," Ms Palaszczuk said.

Figures released last week showed almost two-thirds of child abuse investigations and assessments weren't taking place in recommended time frames.

Budget estimates will conclude on Thursday.
