Neighbours have rescued an elderly couple from a house fire in north Perth.

The blaze broke out at about 6.50pm on Friday on Vista Parade in Ballajura while the couple and their 45-year-old son were inside, police say.

The son was able to find his way out of the house through the smoke, but neighbours had to pull the 79-year-old man and 66-year-old woman from the flames.

All three have been taken to hospital.

Arson squad detectives are assessing the scene but a police spokesman declined to comment on whether the fire is suspicious.

He said police are yet to speak to the couple as they are in hospital. Their son has been treated for smoke inhalation and is due to be released from hospital on Saturday.
