Daniel Morcombe's killer Brett Peter Cowan and the inmate who threw boiling water over the child killer are both in hospital.

Cowan is in a isolation ward at Princess Alexandra Hospital with burns to his head, chest and legs following the attack at Wolston Correctional Centre on Friday morning.

On Friday afternoon, his alleged attacker was apparently receiving medical treatment.

A corrective services spokesperson told AAP a male prisoner went to hospital after suffering an injury, but not would not release any further details.

"It appears there are no suspicious circumstances as to how he sustained the injury," the spokesperson said.

Cowan is serving a life sentence for the 2003 murder of Morcombe.

A corrective services spokesman said the 46-year-old was injured around 9.15am and was "conscious and lucid" when an ambulance arrived.

A Seven Network says boiling water was poured from an urn into a mop bucket and then tipped over Cowan.

The inmate then started beating Cowan with the mop bucket.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said Cowan was in a stable condition.
