Dead fish coming to SA end of the Murray

River Murray © AAP Image/Larine Statham River Murray Dead fish will likely be seen in the Murray River in South Australia over the coming weeks as oxygen levels in the water drop after heavy rain.

The SA Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources says leaves and wood that have washed into the water will cause it to turn black and smelly.

Fish may die or become distressed by the change but overall blackwater events improve the health of the river in the longer term, the department said on Friday.
