The body of a Melbourne woman found dead in a toilet block in Africa will be brought home this weekend.

Elly Warren, 20, was on a diving trip in Mozambique and was due to fly home last week but was found dead in the toilet block near a market.

Ms Warren's family travelled to Mozambique and said in a statement to the Herald Sun they will bring her body back home on Sunday.

"Our main focus is to get our girl home now and treat her with dignity and respect she deserves," her step-father, Dave Cafarella, told the newspaper.

A GoFundMe online campaign has been set up calling for donations to help the family with funeral costs.

Close to $8000 has been raised in two days, and the campaign organiser says the family will donate any extra funds to International Marine Volunteers in Ms Warren's honour.

The circumstances surrounding Ms Warren's death remain murky.

Her family was informed she was murdered and possibly sexually assaulted, but local police have told Australian media that the body didn't show signs of violence when found.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says they are in talks with local authorities as they continue to investigate.

The family says results from an autopsy could take up to two weeks.
