Dick Van Dyke has confirmed he will appear in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns.

The 91-year-old actor, who played chimney sweep Bert in the 1964 Disney original, has revealed that he has agreed to join the cast of the new movie.

"This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a great cast - Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy (Lin-Manuel Miranda) from Hamilton."

Rob Marshall is directing Mary Poppins Returns, which will star Emily Blunt as the eponymous mystical nanny, as well as Colin Firth, Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw. It will follow a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, who are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss.

Iconic star Dick, who also played the elderly, bearded bank manager Mr. Dawes Senior in the original film, will once again show off his dance skills in the cameo.

"I'll be going to London in the spring to do my role, and I get to do a little song and dance number," Dick shared with Entertainment Tonight. "I gotta be a part of it."

While they haven't begun rehearsing for the role just yet, Dick said he has heard some of the music from the film, and divulged that it's going to be "a little different" than the original score, created by the Sherman Brothers.

Though Dick has been "choosy" about his roles throughout his career, he's remained active as a performer, most recently being introduced to a new generation of fans through the Night at the Museum franchise.

Mary Poppins Returns is slated to hit theatres in December, 2018.
