Australia's Kevin Chavez has won silver on the opening day of the FINA Gold Coast diving Grand Prix but couldn't stop a Chinese whitewash on Saturday.

Olympian Chavez finished second behind Jianfeng Peng as China claimed all four gold medals on day one of competition.

A week after winning Australia's first ever medal at the series - bronze in the springboard at the Malaysian Grand Prix - Chavez (423.85) ran runner up to Peng (490.90)

The USA's Jordan Windle finished third with 419.4.

Jie Lian was a convincing winner in the women's platform final, posting a score of 346.55 to finish ahead of USA's Tarrin Gilliland on 299.20.

Australian Olympian Brittany O'Brien was fourth, just four points behind China's Bingqing Xia.

Earlier Chinese divers dominated the first of the synchronised events, winning gold in both the men's three-metre and the women's 10-metre platform finals.

Bowen Huang and Siyi Xie finished more than 60 points ahead of their nearest rivals in the men's 3-metre synchro, posting a score of 409.92.

In the women's platform final Xia teamed up with Yujie Xia to win gold with 278.73.
