'Do I look distraught?' Mariah Carey still believes in life after love post-James Packer

If the 47-year-old pop diva ever gets around to writing her autobiography (Dear Goddess: Please, make it happen), her James Packer era might be just a footnote.

Well, maybe it'll get a complete chapter, but Mariah wants everyone to know that she's doing just fine after their split in September.

Extra's Mario Lopez noticed it right off when he and Mariah sat down for her interview, and he wasted no time telling her so.

"You don't look distraught at all," he said at the beginning of their chat.

"Do I? Do I look distraught?" Mariah replied, apparently mishearing his comment.

"No," Mario answered.

"Oh, good. I'm definitely not distraught," Mariah said…and we totally believe her.

Mario then changed the subject to another potentially flammable topic, "my boy" Nick [Cannon, Mariah's ex-husband], who, according to the Extra presenter, "always has the nicest things to say" about his now-ex-wife.

Mariah and Nick were married for eight years, and they share five-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, but it appears she didn't get confirmation that his third child is on the way until the rest of us did.

"This is all news to me because, like, I didn't know about this until maybe last week," she said of the recently breaking news that Nick, 36, is expecting a baby with his ex-girlfriend Britanny Bell.

"And then I asked him a question, and then he kind of said yes, but he didn't really say yes, so now I'm just like, 'OK, it's confirmed, and if he's happy, that's great."

We love positive Mariah. And why not be positive? If recent rumours – and photos – are to be believed, she may be on the verge of rebounding with her back-up dancer Bryan Tanaka.

Of course, although she's not distraught, James isn't completely out of mind. Mariah is still demanding AU$65 from her ex-fiance to make up for the expense of relocating her family to LA to be with him.
