A crowdfunding campaign for the family of slain British backpacker Tom Jackson has received hundreds of pledges.

Tom Jackson died from his injuries almost a week after going to the aid of 21-year-old British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung, who was also killed in a frenzied knife attack at a hostel in far north Queensland on August 23.

Frenchman Smail Ayad, 29, has been charged with one count of murder and will be charged with a second count at his next court appearance in October.

The initial crowdfunding target for Mr Jackson's family was STG5000 ($A8700) but the fund's ceiling has been raised several times since it started, with donations continuing to flow in.

The site was set up by a family friend and the target is now STG14,000. By 1pm on Thursday, 623 people had pledged GBP13,045 .
