Don't trade votes for guns: Vic premier

States are expected to endorse making the controversial Adler shotgun available to a very limited range of professional shooters, as Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has taken a swipe at the federal government.

Premiers at the Council of Australian Governments meeting in Canberra on Friday are due to back a Category D classification for the firearm, following a debate over the import ban at the federal level.

"We've seen some pretty ordinary behaviour around this issue. We ought not to be trading the classification like this for votes in the Senate or anywhere else," Mr Andrews told the Seven Network.
