A driver has been taken to hospital after his truck, filled with potatoes, ploughed into a house in northern Tasmania.

The vehicle became stuck just before 10am (AEST) Monday after it left George Street at Scottsdale, crashing into the vacant residence and tearing down powerlines.

The driver, in his 60s, has been taken to Launceston General Hospital for assessment, Sergeant Andrew Hanson told ABC Radio.

"We believe it may be some sort of medical condition," Sgt Hanson said of the cause of the crash.

No one was inside the house at the time of the crash.
