Driver killed near Vic-NSW border

A man has died after he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree in country Victoria.

The man, 48, was driving along the Murray Valley Highway in Natya, about 62km north of Swan Hill, when he crashed about 4pm on Wednesday.

His death is the sixth over the holiday period.

Three men died on Tuesday - one crashed into a tree in Somerville, a motorcyclist died in Portarlington, and another lost control of his car in Teddywaddy West.

On Monday night, a man died after his ute collided with a petrol tanker at an intersection in Corio, near Geelong.

And a 37-year-old man died in hospital after his car left the road, ending up in the front yard of a house at Clunes, on Christmas Day.

Victoria's road toll for 2016 stands at 288, compared with 249 deaths for the same time last year.
