A man has driven his car into a group of people on the Gold Coast, leaving one with leg injuries after he was wedged between two vehicles, police say.

It's alleged the driver pulled up next to a group of men who were standing beside their cars at Main Beach on Sunday night.

Police say a verbal argument broke out and the driver deliberately drove at the group, hitting one of the parked cars.

One man was trapped by the leg between the two cars. A second man suffered an ankle injury while jumping to safety.

Police say the driver then sped off along the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise before driving onto light rail tracks and then the Gold Coast Highway.

Officers arrested him a short time later at Labrador.

A 32-year-old man will face the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to remain at the scene of a crash, and failing to help an injured person.
