Escaped inmate charged over police pursuit

Parramatta Local Court © AAP Image/Dean Lewins Parramatta Local Court A man who had a warrant out for his arrest on a charge of escaping lawful custody will appear in a Sydney court on Wednesday after being caught following a police pursuit in the city's southwest.

Police say they noticed a car driving erratically on Excelsior Street in Guildford and it failed to stop when asked, sparking a chase.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed into a parked car on Townsend Street.

The driver, a 40-year-old man, ran from the scene but was soon located under a nearby property and arrested.

During his arrest, he allegedly resisted police and was hit with OC spray.

His passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene of the crash.

The man was charged with eight offences including an outstanding arrest warrant for inmate escape lawful custody, and will face Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.

The woman was charged with drug offences and will face court on February 7.
