Dante Exum's bid for more NBA minutes with Utah has received a boost with star point guard George Hill reportedly sidelined with injury.

Hill is out with a sprained toe for the in-form Jazz's home clash against Miami on Thursday (Friday AEDT), the Salt Lake City Tribune reports.

Australian Exum, the 2014 No.5 draft pick, may be in line to start having done so in six of eight games when Hill was injured last month.

Exum's court time plummeted in recent matches since Hill's return, only playing 21 minutes in his past four matches.

Coach Quin Snyder did not call on the 21-year-old in Monday's (Tuesday AEDT) away win over Minnesota before he played eight of 48 minutes in the Jazz's victory against Houston the following day.

He had averaged 27.75 minutes and 9.5 points per game while Hill was on the sidelines, in his most productive stretch since his comeback from a year out with a knee injury.

Since Hill's return, the Jazz have preferred Shelvin Mack at back-up point guard, forcing Exum down the pecking order.
