A fire has caused $1 million damage to a boutique microbrewery and wood-oven pizza house in the Adelaide Hills.

The blaze started in the kitchen of the Grumpy's Brewhaus in Verdun before midday on Friday and spread to the roof of the large building.

Three people at the all-grain microbrewery were alerted by a smoke alarm and they safely evacuated, a Country Fire Service spokeswoman said.

However one firefighter was taken to hospital with injuries suffered battling the blaze.

About 80 firefighters took about 45 minutes to control the fire, which caused an estimated $1 million damage.
