A former high-ranking Rebels motorcycle gang member is among two men charged with intimidation and gun offences after dramatic arrests in Sydney's west.

The pair of 30-year-olds were nabbed on Saturday night by police investigating reports that a man and a woman were threatened by two armed men.

One man was caught after sprinting from a car officers tried to stop at Llandilo about 7.40pm.

Police say the driver then sped off before ditching his car and escaping on foot after running over some road spikes at Willmot.

Officers ran after the man, who suffered facial injuries after allegedly resisting arrest and was taken to hospital.

Police say they discovered a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition inside the pair's car.

The passenger has been refused bail on a string of firearm and intimidation charges to face Mt Druitt Local Court on Tuesday.

The driver was charged with a raft of similar offences, as well as police pursuit charges, and is expected to face Penrith Local Court after being released from hospital.
