A former Victorian premier is to forge a new career behind the microphone running an hour-long weekly current affairs spot on his local radio station.

Denis Napthine will take to the airwaves on the Warrnambool-based 3YB and says he hopes to highlight local issues.

Dr Napthine took over from former premier Ted Baillieu in 2013, led the Liberal party to a narrow defeat in 2014, and retired from politics in 2015.
