Four teenagers have been charged over a series of home invasions and a kidnapping in Melbourne.

The group, including a 16-year-old boy, was allegedly involved in four burglaries in the space of nine hours on Thursday in Melbourne's eastern and southeastern suburbs.

In one, a Park Orchards man was forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw cash for the teens, police say.

A car was stolen during a home invasion in Officer and a laptop and other items were taken from an unlocked garage in Mitcham.

Residents were home during three of the burglaries.

The resulting police operation saw three schools in Wantirna placed in lockdown on Thursday, with children told to stay inside for about two hours.

The four, three 18-year- olds from Frankston, Pakenham and Dandenong North and a Springvale youth aged 16, will appear in court on Friday charged with kidnapping, aggravated burglary, false imprisonment, robbery and other offences.

Victoria Police have arrested more than 120 people as they attempt to tackle a spike in aggravated burglaries and carjackings in Victoria.
