A string of calm and sunny days in parts of South Australia will be interrupted on Thursday, as gale force winds and cold temperatures sweep the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the winds up to 110 km/h will hit the western and central regions of the state before dawn, then move to the east.

Adelaide, Ceduna, Port Lincoln, Cleve, Maitland, Clare, Victor Harbour, Lameroo and Mount Gambier are among the areas that have been warned to brace for damaging winds.
