Steven Gerrard's Los Angeles Galaxy exit with no definite plan for his future could pique the interest of A-League clubs pondering their marquee options.

The former Liverpool star is leaving the MLS club after an injury-plagued two seasons following his England Premier League departure at the end of the 2014-15 season.

The 36-year-old will return to England to contemplate his future, saying another playing stint is not off the table.

"I'm sure I'll be back involved the game. I've got options on and off the pitch," Gerrard told the Galaxy website.

"I'm not ready to make a decision or finalise anything that I'm going to be doing moving forward.

"What I will say is I'm going home to spend some time with my family and basically go over the options and decide which is the best next challenge for me."

The former England midfielder spent his entire club career with the Reds before making 34 appearances with the Galaxy where he scored five goals with 14 assists, showing glimpses of his greatness while at times struggling.

Gerrard has been linked to a reunion with former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic by British press, but has previously refused to rule out a stint playing in Australia.

"I've never had that offer ... but all the doors that are open for me in the future, I'll never say never to any of them," he said in Sydney ahead of Liverpool legends match in January.

"We'll have to wait and see what the future holds."
