Jason Gillespie may put his hand up to replace out-going boss Rod Marsh on the Australian cricket team's board of selectors.

The former fast bowler is back in Australia after a successful five years coaching English county side Yorkshire.

He will coach Adelaide Strikers in the summer's Big Bash League, but is considering setting his sights on a national selectors position.

"There is a national selectors job up next year and I might put my name up for that," he told News Corp Australia.

"All I have done the last five years is select teams for Yorkshire.

"I wouldn't rule anything out. If there are opportunities I will look at it."

Gillespie led Yorkshire out of the second division after taking the reins in 2011 and to back-to-back English titles.

He was an early contender to replace Peter Moores as England cricket coach in 2015 before losing out to Trevor Bayliss.

Marsh will not seek an extension in the role after his contract runs out in mid-2017.
