The batting woes of dumped Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell show no sign of abating after lacklustre showings for Australia A.

As Australia looks to rebound from a Test whitewash to Sri Lanka when their five-game ODI series begins in Colombo on Sunday, Maxwell is having problems of his own on home soil.

The batsman has scored just 61 runs in five innings for Australia A since being dropped from the national side.

Maxwell was not picked in July for Australia's touring squad, with chairman of selectors Rod Marsh saying he needed to find consistency.

It was a stunning result for the reigning one-day player of the year who played a key role in Australia's 2015 World Cup victory, blasting 324 runs at an average of 64.80.

He scored just 59 runs in his seven ODI innings before being cut.

Maxwell has since been playing for Australia A in north Queensland but his numbers aren't getting any better.

Australia A swept their two-match four-day series earlier in August against South Africa A, but Maxwell only contributed innings figures of 0, 13 and 38.

In the opening three matches of quadrangular one-day series featuring South Africa A, India A and a national performance squad, he's scored 0 and 10.

Maxwell's off-spinners have also made little impact, taking three wickets at an average of 44 over the five matches.

Australia A lost to South Africa A by eight wickets on Saturday, leaving them with one win from their opening three matches of the tournament.

The Aussies were bowled out for just 107, which the visitors chased down in 22 overs.

Australia A's next match is against the national performance squad on Wednesday in Mackay.
