Gold Coast mayor's invite to Prince Harry

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has invited Prince Harry to bunk down at his place as Queensland ramps up its bid to host the Invictus Games in 2018.

The sunshine state is battling it out with NSW to host the international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel after the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Mr Tate said on Tuesday that the Gold Coast was the perfect spot for Invictus as the city would only have to tweak the newly-constructed Commonwealth Games venues to make them more accessible.

"Doesn't hurt to get Harry here and he's welcome to stay at my place," Mr Tate said.

Major Events Minister Kate Jones will meet with representatives of the Invictus Games Foundation this week when they inspect potential venues.

The location will be announced next month.
