Australian teenager Hannah Green has made a solid start in her bid to earn a maiden LPGA Tour card after the opening round of the qualifying tournament in Florida.

The 19-year-old West Australian, who turned professional last month, shot a even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 38th at Daytona Beach on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT).

Green hit birdies on the par-five fifth and par-three 17th holes balanced out by bogeys on the first and 15th.

She needs a top-20 finish at the five-round tournament to earn a card, while making the cut after the fourth round would hand her a place on the second-tier Symetra Tour.

Rebeccas Artis and Emma de Groot are the next best-placed Australians in a tie for 52nd, while amateur Wanasa Zhou is three-over in a tie for 92nd.

Green was runner-up to world No.1 Lydia Ko in last year's New Zealand Open and was the best-performed local at the Australian Ladies Masters in February this year.

She finished 20th in the Australian Open the same month.
