Greens want national ban on fracking

The Greens hope a push for a nationwide ban on fracking will pressure the Nationals and Labor to side with them and landholders who want the right to say no to coal and gas mines.

Days after the Victorian government moved to ban fracking, Senator Larissa Waters moved to ban it across the country, saying gas extraction process was essentially a geological experiment that pierced aquifers.

"If you can think of a more dangerous process in the driest inhabited continent on the planet, then you're doing better than I can," she told the Senate when introducing a private bill.
