A blow has been dealt to one of Australia's best loved music events as Grouplove have pulled out of Falls Festival on doctor's orders.

The US band were due to perform at the festival, running across four locations in Australia, and two sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne, but have been forced to pull out after singer Hannah Hooper was placed on vocal rest.

"It breaks my heart to let you know that due to strict doctor's orders, I have to be on complete vocal rest for the next 4-6 weeks. I've been doing everything in my power to get out there and do these shows with you guys, but right now this is completely out of my control," Hooper posted on the band's Facebook page.

"My vocal cords will heal, but the only way that is going to happen is if I am silent for the next 4-6 weeks."

The group apologised for the cancellations which also include upcoming US dates.

Headliners Childish Gambino, London Grammar and The Avalanches are still set to make the trip over for Falls Festival which kicks off on December 28 in Lorne, Victoria.
