A man accused of indecently assaulting two women at southern Sydney libraries last month has appeared in court for the first time.

Simon Ma on Tuesday faced Sutherland Local Court, where his lawyer indicated Ma was likely to plead guilty to two counts of indecent assault but that the accused man and prosecutors had not come to an agreement about the circumstances of the incidents.

Police have alleged the first assault occurred on the evening of October 7 at a library in Kogarah, where a woman was indecently assaulted while bending over to retrieve a book.

A similar incident is alleged to have occurred three days later at a library in Hurstville.

The magistrate said he could not accept a "qualified plea of guilty" and adjourned the matter until December 20 so the question of facts could be resolved.
