A Gold Coast plasterer who allegedly pointed a gun at a worksite security guard has been granted bail.

Nathan Della, 35, appeared at Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday facing five charges including threatening violence.

Police allege Della pointed a handgun at a security guard on a Mudgeeraba construction site last Sunday.

It's claimed Della was attempting to recover one of his work tools that he'd left on the site.

The tradesman told the court on Monday he never intended to hurt anyone and was merely trying to sell the gun for money to fix his car.

Della added the gun was a replica he'd bought during a "bad place" in his life and he was simply trying to sell it to the guard to make some money to fix his car.

Police have sent the weapon for ballistics testing to determine if it is a replica or not.

Della's matter has been adjourned until October 13.
