A homeless Tasmanian woman who set fire to a pile of clothing beside a charity bin to keep warm has been sentenced to prison after the blaze spread to a neighbouring property, causing more than $130,000 damage.

Jessica Jean Rose Streets, 19, was sentenced by the Tasmanian Supreme Court on Friday for a fire that she started in April behind the St Vincent de Paul depot at the northwest township of Smithton, and a subsequent fire she lit in June which caused more than $400,000 to the town's workers club.

"Your actions created a significant risk to property and life, and, in actual fact, caused significant damage," Justice Michael Brett said in sentencing, jailing Streets for two years but suspending the final 15 months.
