Aussie rock legends the Hoodoo Gurus will play a free concert at Bondi in support of the Save Bondi Pavillion group on Sunday.

The Save Bondi Pavillion group is fuming over public money being used for renovations which they say will halve the community space in the historic building.

Hoodoo Gurus front man Dave Faulkner says the changes are tantamount to theft.

"The public is expected to shell out $38 million only to lose a whole lot of facilities and to partly fund someone else's new business venture," he said.

The band is the latest in a star-studded list to protest the planned changes, with actors Jack Thompson, Michael Caton and Sam Neill amongst those who have spoken out.

A petition calling for the area's federal MP and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to intervene in the matter has been started by the group.

The concert will also feature alternative DJ stars Art Vs Science and will kick off at 1.30pm in the Pavillion.
