Mainland state capital housing prices have risen, although long weekends and football grand finals have pushed auction volumes down sharply.

Prices achieved at auction were up in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, but down in Adelaide and Perth, leaving the five-city average up by 0.2 per cent last week and by 7.2 per cent through the year, CoreLogic said in its roundup of the week ending Sunday.

The auction clearance rate was a high 77.5 per cent, up slightly from the previous week's 75.4 per cent, although the long weekend in some states, along with AFL and NRL grand finals, pushed auction volumes down by two thirds.
