An ice junkie who violently raped and robbed a woman he had stalked through Sydney's northwest has been sentenced to at least eight years behind bars.

Luke Rowe's crimes were in September described by Penrith District Court Judge Jeffrey McLennan as "terrifying" and he was on Friday sentenced at the same court after earlier pleading guilty to four counts of aggravated sexual assault and one charge of robbery.

Rowe, 24, told police he had injected and smoked close to an eight ball, about 3.5 grams, of the drug ice on the evening of July 9, 2015, when he attacked the woman in Rooty Hill.

The victim, who cannot be named, was on her way to work when Rowe grabbed her from behind and slapped a hand across her mouth.

She told police her attacker was out of breath, as if he had been running after her, but managed to threaten "if you run, I will catch you and kill you. I will pull a knife and kill you".

The court heard Rowe's drug use appeared to be "entrenched" and he had struggled with addiction for most of his young life.

Rowe has been sentenced to a maximum 12 years and with time served is first eligible for release in September 2023.
