India A have fought back strongly in their four-day match against Australia A at Allan Border Field.

After Australia A were bowled out for 228 to trail the visitors by two runs on the first innings, India A were 2-44 at stumps on Friday's second day.

Peter Handscomb hit a quickfire 87 from 93 balls and Joe Burns made 78 off 125 deliveries to be the pick of Australia's batsmen as they combined for a 118-run partnership.

But when Hardik Pandya took the wicket of Burns, caught at gully, it triggered an Australia A collapse.

Pandya claimed scalps in successive overs as Australia A lost their last five wickets for 30 runs.

Handscomb was closing in on a century when miscommunication with Beau Webster while pushing for a second run left the Victorian stranded mid-pitch and he was run out.

Bad light delayed play and rain brought an early end to the day's proceedings.
