A panicked young Hobart woman was killed in a car smash just a fortnight after getting her driver's licence in a case of inexperience, a coroner says.

Louise Kamarnia May Hanlon, 18, died in December when her Mazda 2 turned in front of a LandCruiser at a T-intersection east of Hobart, leaving her front-seat passenger with cuts and bruises.

Coroner Olivia McTaggart said the causative factor in the crash was a "serious error of judgment on the part of Ms Hanlon as a young and inexperienced driver", adding that she panicked and accelerated when she saw the approaching vehicle.
