The Gold Coast's bid for Prince Harry's Invictus Games is heating up, with potential venues being scouted.

Representatives from the Invictus Games Foundation will visit the Gold Coast on Thursday to inspect possible venues for their event in 2018.

The Sunshine State is battling it out with NSW to host the international sporting event.

The Gold Coast is being touted as the perfect destination because of its infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games, which is also being held in 2018.

It's unclear how much it will cost to host the Invictus Games, but it's being sold as a priceless opportunity given it will involve a visit from Prince Harry.

He created the the Invictus Games for wounded or ill armed services personnel, with the first event held in 2014.

Queensland will discover whether its bid has been successful by the end of September.
