Iraq have warmed up for their World Cup qualifier against the Socceroos with a 2-2 draw against A-League outfit Perth at Dalmatinac Park.

Iraq led 2-0 at halftime, but goals to Kosta Petratos and veteran Richard Garcia after the break in Thursday night's clash ensured a share in the spoils for the Glory.

The friendly was played behind closed doors in Perth, with Iraq using the match as vital preparation ahead of Thursday's showdown with the Socceroos at nib Stadium.

Australia need to finish in the top two of their six-team group to cement a spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has named a powerful 23-man squad for the matches against Iraq (September 1) and United Arab Emirates (September 6 in Abu Dhabi).

Tim Cahill is the most experienced of the bunch, and the veteran striker will aim to impress following his recent move to Melbourne City.

The Socceroos are ranked 57th in the world, while Iraq, the 2007 Asian Cup winners, are 113th.

Japan, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Thailand also feature in Group B.
