Isla Fisher dodges bombs and bullets

In Isla Fisher's new action-comedy the Australian actress survived high-speed car chases, exploding houses and scenes where she had to strip down to her underwear.

But the biggest stretch - literally - for Fisher in Keeping Up with the Joneses was a scene where she had to make out with co-star Gal Gadot.

Gadot, the towering Israeli beauty best known as the new Amazonian superhero Wonder Woman, stands over 182cm in heels while pint-sized Fisher is 160cm tall.

"Just an apple box later and I could be right at her eyeline," Fisher laughs in an interview with AAP.

Fisher and comedian Zach Galifianakis play an average mum and dad living in the suburbs whose lives get turned upside down when an attractive couple, Gadot and Mad Men star Jon Hamm, move into a house in their cul-de-sac.

Fisher's character, Karen Gaffney, becomes suspicious, snoops on the neighbours, discovers they are spies and are suddenly dodging bullets.

In one car chase audiences will see and hear the former Home and Away star screaming in the backseat of a car driven by Hamm.

Hamm said Fisher was not acting.

Director Greg Mottola tossed the car's keys to Hamm and instead of a stunt driver it was Hamm behind the wheel.

"I was very good at it," Hamm said.

"I have to say I was incredibly proud of my skills behind the wheel.

"Isla did not think so.

"She was screaming.

"She has a very piercing voice."
