A one per cent lift in the number of jobs advertised in newspapers and online during October shows that labour market conditions are improving, according to the latest job ads survey from the ANZ bank.

The pick-up in October following almost no change in September.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the number of job advertisements in October was up by 5.2 per cent from a year earlier.

ANZ economists say that in trend terms, job ads lifted by 0.4 per cent in October, a little below the rise of 0.5 per cent in September.

"The rise in ANZ job ads is encouraging and points to ongoing improvement in labour market conditions," ANZ's head of Australian economics, Felicity Emmett said on Monday.

"It is consistent with the moderate pace of economic growth, as well as above-average business and consumer sentiment."
