Paulo Dybala opened the scoring and Gonzalo Higuain netted a brace for Serie A leaders Juventus in Sunday's 3-0 win at Empoli.

The Argentine pair helped the reigning Italian champions improve to 18 points from seven games, four points clear of Napoli who visit Atalanta later on Sunday (Monday AEST) when seven more games are scheduled.

Ex-Napoli man Higuain tops the scorers chart on six goals alongside compatriot Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan.

"I needed this first goal in the home league after my goal at (Dinamo) Zagreb (in a 4-0 UEFA Champions League win) and I think now I am ready to score more," Dybala said.

"I and Higuain are always together and often talk about football. It is important for us not to concede. It is good for our confidence. We want to stay on this path and I think we are doing well."

Juve's usual pressing allowed Miralem Pjanic to feed Sami Khedira in the box on nine minutes, but the German fired against the bar after chesting the pass.

Empoli's Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski made several good saves against Juan Cuadrado, Khedira and Dybala while Uros Cosic cleared Higuain's curling shot off the goal-line.

Dybala finally broke the deadlock in the 65th minutes, set up by Alex Sandro.

Higuain then drilled a smashing shot into the bottom left corner in the 67th and wrapped up matters three minutes later, taking advantage of a bad back pass from Marco Zambelli.

Empoli's fifth defeat left them second-last on four points.

Lazio beat Udinese 3-0 on Saturday to go third on 13 points, with Chievo behind them on goal difference after a 2-0 defeat of Pescara.
