Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning will play in Australia's opening one-day international against Sri Lanka on Sunday after overcoming a shoulder injury.

Lanning was ruled out of the English Twenty20 Super League competition last month after suffering a cartilage tear in her right shoulder, but was still named for the Sri Lankan tour.

She trained in the nets on Wednesday and now says she will be right to go in the team's tour opener in Dambulla.

"That's going really well," she said.

"Everything is on track for me to be playing my part on this tour."

Lanning and the Southern Stars have not played since Australia's shock loss to the West Indies in the final of the World T20 in India.

The tour of Sri Lanka is a first for Australia's women's team, the tourists having won all four of their previous meetings in both the one-day and T20 forms of the game.

"Coming off the disappointing end to the World Cup it's a good test for us to try and get back to playing some good cricket," Lanning said.

"Hopefully we've improved and can implement those things in these games coming up."
