A 44-year-old man has been charged for allegedly illegally importing more than 750kg of tobacco into WA.

Australian Border Force targeted a shipment that arrived from Indonesia in early October and found more than 490kg of molasses tobacco in boxes labelled as incense.

The discovery led investigators to search commercial premises in Wangara and a residence in Landsdale, both in Perth's north, seizing a further 262kg of tobacco.

The tobacco had a potential street value of up to $210,000 and up to $664,412 in duty was evaded.

Border Force investigators are considering additional charges against the man, connected to the possible importation of a further 1859 kg of molasses tobacco with an estimated street value of $520,000.

"The illicit importation of tobacco is a deliberate and dishonest attempt to defraud the Commonwealth of legitimate revenue," ABF commander of immigration and customs enforcement Anthony Seebach said.
