Rising Australian batsman Jake Lehmann, son of Australian national Darren, will continue his career development in England after signing with English side Yorkshire for the remainder of the county season.

The 24-year-old Lehmann joins as a replacement for fellow South Australian and Adelaide Strikers batsman Travis Head, who has been called up for Australia's one-day series with Sri Lanka.

Yorkshire head coach Jason Gillespie, who played alongside Lehmann's father at Test and state level, was thrilled.

"We're delighted to secure the services of Jake," he said.

"He's a great kid, gives the ball a whack and has shown good nous and awareness.

"Having worked with him at the Strikers (I know) he'll fit into the changing room too, as all our players do.

"I just hope that he has a good time with us, enjoys himself and contributes to some good wins for Yorkshire."

Darren Lehmann had a glittering career at Yorkshire in his own right and was the team's leading scorer when they won the county championship in 2001, smashing 1416 runs at an average of 83.2.
