Lindsay Lohan has left fans baffled after appearing to lose her American accent in a recent interview.

The Mean Girls star was talking about her new business venture in Greece with friend Dennis Papageorgiou when they couldn't help but be confused about where her New York twang has disappeared to.

Speaking to a number of reporters in Athens, what came out of Lindsay's mouth was unidentifiable as to where it comes from.

Lindsay was seen explaining why she had chosen to start a nightclub venture in Greece, and denied that she was in a relationship with her new business partner.

“Dennis, my friend, and that's all he is, my friend and business partner,” she said before explaining that she had grown close to his family.

“When I went through hardships with my ex, I found really, a good family in Istanbul from Greece.”

Lindsay quickly goes on to talk about the refugee crisis in Europe, as well as her own clubbing tales and how they can make good thing come from the money the clubs make.

“I'm so bewildered and shocked,” one Twitter user wrote.

While another said: “i'm like lindsay lohan's new accent: at first you don't know what to make of me, but after a little bit, you can't get enough(sic).”

“I love her and this is fascinating,” one fan shared.

Meanwhile, last week it was reported that Lindsay had promised to turn on the Christmas lights in Kettering, but the council hasn't been able to get hold of her since.

The Mean Girls star offered to take part in the big switch on after a personal invite from local MP Philip Hollobone and Commons leader Chris Grayling when she was criticised for not knowing where the Northamptonshire town is.

Mr Hollobone told the BBC News: "She said she would come and switch on the Christmas lights at Kettering but, despite everyone's best efforts, it's simply not be possible to track her down.

"She needs to know when and where she needs to be. The message is, 'Lindsay Lohan please get in touch, your public awaits.'"

Lindsay was criticised by Mr Hollobone when she tweeted to her millions of followers that she didn't know where Kettering is.

In response, Hollobone told the House of Parliament: "Apart from the fact it might be the most average town in the country, everyone knows where Kettering is.

"It's famous as the home of Weetabix breakfast cereal, Cheaney's and Loake's shoes, and Kettering Town football club has scored more goals in the history of the FA Cup than any other football team in the country.

"So would you support my invitation to Lindsay Lohan to come and switch on the Christmas lights in Kettering this Christmas, thus redeeming her political reputation and raising money for good causes?"

When the offer was made, Lindsay accepted almost instantly.

She wrote: "Direct message me about your offer. Would be happy to light the Christmas tree in #Kettering. (sic)"

Maybe fans need to launch a 'where's Lindsay campaign', although she recently posted pics in Instanbul last week and today supporting the New York Nicks.

Mirror Celeb has contacted Lindsay's rep for a comment.
